Just Do It! Keeping the Motivation and Momentum with Action!

Here we are in week 2 of 2011. I know most of you are full steam ahead and there’s no stopping you now. 2010 is over and you’re welcoming 2011 with a renewed spirit and committment. CONGRATULATIONS – Keep It Up!

Some people I’ve spoken with are having trouble keeping the momentum, staying in action and finding the motivation to get going. Here’s an easy suggestion that you could resist if you want to — but that’s not why you’re here. You want better results than you had last year. You want this year to be the BEST EVER! It is what we do every day that determines our long term success. Try this “Just Do It” approach (yes, like Nike says) and feel the energy, motivation and enthusiasm fuel your goals and dreams.

“Just Do It” Looking for the motivation to get started? Don’t wait for the motivation – just get started. just put on your sneakers for the gym, just pick up the phone and call someone, just start reading a few paragraphs. Action generates feeling (motivation) more often than motivation creates action.

Facebook Cartoon Character Game

Initially I wasn’t going to play but as I saw all the fun cartoon characters come to life, I thought I’d jump right in. Not sure who to pick, my daughter asked “Well, what did you watch as a kid?” The first show that came to mind was Top Cat (remember that one?). I got all excited and quickly found an image of Top Cat and then searched You Tube so I’d be able to share a clip or the theme song with all the youngins’ who hadn’t seen the show.

Off to You Tube I go and found the most amazing discovery – Top Cat was a scoundrel! A “Bad Boy” and a womanizer. He doesn’t tip the doorman (he pretends to and then pulls back the coin), he steals a construction worker’s lunch and uses his quick mind and slick tongue to survive on the streets, all the while dazzling the lady cats with his charming ways. With this type of programming going into my head, is it really any surprise that I was attracted to “Bad Boys” and had many failed relationships?

As I reflect on some of the other ‘programming’ that filled my mind and created my image of reality [“Leave it To Beaver” (with that ‘perfect’ family picture and Eddy Haskell), “The Beverly Hillbillies” with Mr. Dreisdale taking advantage of the Clampets, and of course “Batman” the ultimate Super-Hero], I can see the roots of much of the distorted belief system that ran my life.

While I previously considered how some of these shows affected my beliefs about money, rich people and the fantasy of “happily ever after” I had never before made the connection to the effect of those early childhood cartoons.

Things that make you go “Hmmmm?????”

And to sum it all up, I went with Mighty Mouse as my cartoon profile “Here I Come to Save the Day!” Ah, perhaps I’m still waiting for the Knight on the White Horse. Clearly, more reflection to follow.

Are you really in the sales business? No – you’re in the people business. Whatever you want in your life has to come from other people. Whether it’s service at a restaurant, the client to do business with you, your family and friends to do what you want, it all involves people.

5 Keys to Success in Sales

1. Be committed to your idea, product or service and have full faith and belief in what you are offering.

2. Ask for what you want! You may have done a great job expressing your idea, product or service, but unless you give the other person the instruction of what you want them to do – they don’t know it! Be sure to ask for what you want.

Worst Things First: You know, that project sitting on your desk that you put off day after day because it’s no fun, tedious, challenging and you just don’t want to do! Then you stress because it’s not done yet, work on something else all the while thinking “I really should do that project”. The time you spend thinking about, avoiding and putting off that project is being stolen from you. Employ the “worst things first” strategy and instantly reclaim time you were spending in thinking about it.

Drama Monitor: It’s time to hire a Drama Monitor to alert you when drama, gossip or complaining is stealing your time. Sometimes the drama will be performed by others in your life and sometimes by you! Start noticing right now when conversation starts to make the turn and spirals into discussion of items you have no control over, anger and frustration at what ‘others’ have done or may be thinking, and have your Drama Monitor say “HALT! I’m not going down that path and giving my time to unproductive negative conversation.”

Make Decisions Boldly: Have you struggled over a decision? Experienced the paralysis of analysis syndrome? Think now of the time that was lost during the time of indecision, not to mention the stress and angst caused during the process. Brian Tracy says “Successful people don’t just make right decisions, they make their decisions rights.” When faced with a decision and you don’t instantly know which way to choose, consider the best and worst case scenario of both sides of the decision. If you can accept the worst case scenario as not so bad, go for it. Still struggling? I find that forcing myself to make a decision is often the clue that I should NOT be choosing that thing, or perhaps, just not at that moment. Learn to listen to and trust your gut — it tells the truth.

There are many people who make lots of money online through the Amazon website. In this article, we will investigate how they do it and the skills that you would need to accomplish the same thing.
