Holiday Meltdowns: Is Your To Do List TOO Long? How to Get More Done and Have Fun Too!

Holiday Meltdowns:  Is your to do list TOO long?   How to Get More Done and Have Fun Too!  holiday stress Holiday Meltdowns: Is Your To Do List TOO Long? How to Get More Done and Have Fun Too!

Stop, pause and affirm “I will get everything done today that I meant to get done and do it with grace and ease.” It is not the number of things we get done but rather the manner, method and energy we infuse into the things we do get done.

As the hustle and bustle of the holiday comes into full swing it’s easy to become distracted, hurried, rushed feeling like a “Chicken running around with my head cut off.”  (ooh – what a terrible image!)

Here are a few simple tips to help you this holiday season (and if you really want to get the most peace, prosperity and joy during this time go to: http://wpninstitute.com/holiday)

First, before you rush off to do all the stuff on your to do list, give yourself at least 15 minutes to stop and focus on your priorities for the day:

(a) How do you want to feel today? Happy? Productive? Creative? Social? Relaxed? Consider that you actually have the choice to direct your feelings and responses to what shows up. When you begin your day with attention on your intentions you will more easily handle surprises, challenges and obstacles.

(b) What are the 3 most important things you want to accomplish?  Take that long to do list and number the top 3 things.  You’ll feel GREAT when you can cross them off your list and be delighted when you do more than those 3 because you have more focus and clarity.

Next, keep your to do list at your fingertips all day long … and look at it repeatedly!  Guard yourself from being pulled off course by checking your email, checking out the link in that email, then another link on that page that spurs a new idea and …BAM! Before you know it 30 minutes (or more) are gone and so is the motivation to complete the task you started.

I trust these tips will help you today and always to remember …

“The most important things in life aren’t things.” ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo

When You’re Inspired You’re Not Tired

Have you felt this?

Sitting at my computer late at night after a full day, clearing out email messages, clearing off my desk to prepare for the next day and feeling tired and I just can’t wait to go to sleep.

“I’ll hang in for just 10 more minutes, then I’ll go to bed.”  As I’m going through my papers I come across my “Ideas” notepad and am instantly grabbed by one of the ideas and have to put it into action — not in the morning, right now!  Suddenly a burst of energy is coursing through my veins and I’m on a roll.  I start writing, developing the idea and adding all the pieces to bring this idea to life.   The ideas begins to grow, blossom and before I realize it, 2 hours have passed and I am still feeling inspired, energetic and alive!

When You’re Inspired, You’re Not Tired!inspire 150x150 When Youre Inspired Youre Not Tired

My daughter is an artist. Sunday night she needed to do a poster for one of her college courses.  The poster was to sum up the course material dealing with immigration, social equality, race and diversity.   She had an idea – a way to bring the entire course together in a painting.  Midnight, 1 am, 2 am …… 5:30 am and her masterpiece was complete.  She refused to take shortcuts just to get it done and get to bed.  She was not tired  – she was inspired and created an amazing piece that is sure to not only receive an A+, I can see this artistic social commentary piece as part of her portfolio and ….. (who knows where it may lead).

You never know when that inspiration will hit.  Be open to it.  Pay attention to the ideas, thoughts and dreams floating through your mind.  When you feel even a small charge about an idea – go for it.  Don’t put it off until later or tomorrow.  Get into it, the inspiration will keep you going and you’ll be amazed at what develops and the rewards it will bring.

Facebook Cartoon Character Game

Initially I wasn’t going to play but as I saw all the fun cartoon characters come to life, I thought I’d jump right in.  Not sure who to pick, my daughter asked “Well, what did you watch as a kid?”   The first show that came to mind was Top Cat (remember that one?).  I got all excited and quickly found an image of Top Cat and then searched You Tube so I’d be able to share a clip or the theme song with all the youngins’ who hadn’t seen the show.top cat 150x150 Facebook Cartoon Character Game

Off to You Tube I go and found the most amazing discovery – Top Cat was a scoundrel! A “Bad Boy” and a womanizer.   He doesn’t tip the doorman (he pretends to and then pulls back the coin), he steals a construction worker’s lunch and uses his quick mind and slick tongue to survive on the streets, all the while dazzling the lady cats with his charming ways.  With this type of programming going into my head, is it really any surprise that I was attracted to “Bad Boys” and had many failed relationships?

As I reflect on some of the other ‘programming’ that filled my mind and created my image of reality [“Leave it To Beaver” (with that ‘perfect’ family picture and Eddy Haskell), “The Beverly Hillbillies” with Mr. Dreisdale taking advantage of the Clampets, and of course “Batman” the ultimate Super-Hero], I can see the roots of much of the distorted belief system that ran my life.

While I previously considered how some of these shows affected my beliefs about money, rich people and the fantasy of “happily ever after” I had never before made the connection to the effect of those early childhood cartoons.

What shows did you watch?

What shows do your children watch?

Things that make you go “Hmmmm?????”

And to sum it all up, I went with Mighty Mouse as my cartoon profile “Here I Come to Save the Day!”   Ah, perhaps I’m still waiting for the Knight on the White Horse.  Clearly, more reflection to follow.

Never, Never, Never Give Up!

never give up 150x150 Never, Never, Never Give Up!Do you have a dream?

Did you used to have a dream that’s now buried somewhere deep inside of you?

Challenges come - and challenges go too.  When it appears that the road is too rocky or the mountain too steep, that’s the time to hold on to your dream.  Your faith and commitment, with the support and encouragement of others will get you through those tough and frightening times. Now more than ever before, it is crucial to have a support system, a team and trusted advisors to guide us through these rapidly changing times.  This is NOT the time for us to sit back and do nothing.  This IS the time for us to join forces, tap into each others talents and resources and take charge of our lives and our destiny!

Who do you know that could use YOUR help and support?  Who do you know that can help and support YOU?  It’s okay to ask (yes, really!)  Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of great strength and knowledge.  As Henry Ford said “I don’t need to know everything, I just need to know people who do.”  Do not let feeling stuck, challenged or confused stop you.  Pick up the phone, send an email – reach out!  It’s easier than you may think.

Never, Never, Never Give Up!  Your Life Depends on It! The people who you share your gifts and talents with depend on it.  I depend on it!

We are all connected.  Remember….. “We may not have it all together, but together we can have it all.!” ~Anon

Celebrate Friendship

Today is ”National Friendship Day”

Oh yes, I know, another day created by Hallmark to create revenue for them!  While we don’t have to really go out and buy greeting cards, this is a wonderful reminder  to be grateful for the friendships we now have, those we’ve had in the past and those to come.

Is there someone you once cared about who really ticked you off that you no longer talk to?  (Friendship and forgiveness go hand in hand.)

Is there someone who you’ve simply lost touch with? (Don’t let geography or being too busy keep you from enjoying their friendship.)

Is there someone you’ve met who you’d like to know better?  (They’ll be honored to have YOU as a friend too!)

Why Client Profiles Are So Important: Knowing Your Target Market

target market question 150x150 Why Client Profiles Are So Important: Knowing Your Target MarketAs a marketing specialist, one of the first questions I ask my clients is “Who is your target audience?”  All too often the answer is “Everyone!”  While I’m sure you’ve heard this before, when was the last time you actually sat down and made a list of your the commonalities that exist among your client base.  Often times, business owners begin with one target market in mind and later discover that they are, in fact, serving a different segment of the market.  Take the time this week to review your existing client base and create a Client Profile.  Some of the most important things to consider:  age range, sex (male or female), hobbies, marital status, children, what other services may they be using, income range, business size.

Clearly understanding your target audience will enable you to:

  • Be more effective in your marketing efforts

  • Network in places where your client is more likely to be

  • Give you a clearer picture on who you can create strategic alliances with.

Bonus Time!  Send me an email with your target market outline and I’ll send you a Special Surprise Gift!
