Holiday Meltdowns: Is your to do list TOO long? How to Get More Done and Have Fun Too!

Stop, pause and affirm “I will get everything done today that I meant to get done and do it with grace and ease.” It is not the number of things we get done but rather the manner, method and energy we infuse into the things we do get done.

As the hustle and bustle of the holiday comes into full swing it’s easy to become distracted, hurried, rushed feeling like a “Chicken running around with my head cut off.” (ooh – what a terrible image!)

First, before you rush off to do all the stuff on your to do list, give yourself at least 15 minutes to stop and focus on your priorities for the day:

(a) How do you want to feel today? Happy? Productive? Creative? Social? Relaxed? Consider that you actually have the choice to direct your feelings and responses to what shows up. When you begin your day with attention on your intentions you will more easily handle surprises, challenges and obstacles.

(b) What are the 3 most important things you want to accomplish? Take that long to do list and number the top 3 things. You’ll feel GREAT when you can cross them off your list and be delighted when you do more than those 3 because you have more focus and clarity.

Next, keep your to do list at your fingertips all day long … and look at it repeatedly! Guard yourself from being pulled off course by checking your email, checking out the link in that email, then another link on that page that spurs a new idea and …BAM! Before you know it 30 minutes (or more) are gone and so is the motivation to complete the task you started.

Who doesn’t want a bigger paycheck? Whether you want a bigger paycheck to help with your monthly bills, to help friends and family in need, to be able to donate more to charity, to be able to take a much needed vacation, or to use for investments and retirement, more cash flow is always welcome.

If you’re thinking that having a bigger paycheck depends on the economy, your employer or your prospects and customers – THINK AGAIN! The power to have a bigger paycheck is in the palm of your hands. Want to know how? Read on.

(1) For Employees: While you may think that the amount of money you make is determined by your employer, remember that your employer will pay you more if you bring more value to the company. What can you do to improve your skills? What can you do to help your employer make contacts that will bring in more business? What can you do to have a great attitude that fosters customer retention, loyalty and referrals? Consider the stress your employer may be under during these tough economic times and look for solutions that will not only help him/her, it will put you on the path to a bigger paycheck!

(2) For Business Owners: Do your employees feel like partners in your business vision or are they simply carrying out their day to day tasks, trading time for dollars? Have you conveyed the vision for your company and enrolled them in the process? Do you provide them with the support, motivation and training that’s essential to keep their spirits and the skills at the top of their game? Remember to acknowledge their wins, encourage them during challenges and enroll them in your vision.

(3) For Entrepreneurs: It may be time to fire your boss (yes, that’s you!) Does your boss hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set, the number of contacts and follow up calls you’ve promised to make? Have you actually set your goals, written them down and created a realistic action plan to achieve them? Have you put that action plan into action? It’s time for your new boss (yes, that’s you again) to provide you the best systems and structure for success. Make time today to get clear on your goals, create the action plan and then as Nike says “Just Do It!” To ensure your success in “Just Do It” (which is much easier said than done), find a mastermind group or accountability partner that will support you in sticking with your new system.

Here we are in week 2 of 2011. I know most of you are full steam ahead and there’s no stopping you now. 2010 is over and you’re welcoming 2011 with a renewed spirit and committment. CONGRATULATIONS – Keep It Up!

Some people I’ve spoken with are having trouble keeping the momentum, staying in action and finding the motivation to get going. Here’s an easy suggestion that you could resist if you want to — but that’s not why you’re here. You want better results than you had last year. You want this year to be the BEST EVER! It is what we do every day that determines our long term success. Try this “Just Do It” approach (yes, like Nike says) and feel the energy, motivation and enthusiasm fuel your goals and dreams.

“Just Do It” Looking for the motivation to get started? Don’t wait for the motivation – just get started. just put on your sneakers for the gym, just pick up the phone and call someone, just start reading a few paragraphs. Action generates feeling (motivation) more often than motivation creates action.

When You’re Inspired You’re Not Tired

Have you felt this?

Sitting at my computer late at night after a full day, clearing out email messages, clearing off my desk to prepare for the next day and feeling tired and I just can’t wait to go to sleep.

“I’ll hang in for just 10 more minutes, then I’ll go to bed.” As I’m going through my papers I come across my “Ideas” notepad and am instantly grabbed by one of the ideas and have to put it into action — not in the morning, right now! Suddenly a burst of energy is coursing through my veins and I’m on a roll. I start writing, developing the idea and adding all the pieces to bring this idea to life. The ideas begins to grow, blossom and before I realize it, 2 hours have passed and I am still feeling inspired, energetic and alive!

When You’re Inspired, You’re Not Tired!

My daughter is an artist. Sunday night she needed to do a poster for one of her college courses. The poster was to sum up the course material dealing with immigration, social equality, race and diversity. She had an idea – a way to bring the entire course together in a painting. Midnight, 1 am, 2 am …… 5:30 am and her masterpiece was complete. She refused to take shortcuts just to get it done and get to bed. She was not tired – she was inspired and created an amazing piece that is sure to not only receive an A+, I can see this artistic social commentary piece as part of her portfolio and ….. (who knows where it may lead).

You never know when that inspiration will hit. Be open to it. Pay attention to the ideas, thoughts and dreams floating through your mind. When you feel even a small charge about an idea – go for it. Don’t put it off until later or tomorrow. Get into it, the inspiration will keep you going and you’ll be amazed at what develops and the rewards it will bring.

I received this email this morning and was inspired to share it.

“Thank you so much for yesterday [Heather attended our signature event "Breakfast, Brainstorming & Breakthroughs!"] I told my husband ‘They (the news, lost souls, disillusioned family, friends and co-workers) are lying to us. There is so much love in the world. There is so much abundance and prosperity in the world. There are people living their dream and destiny. There are people who help others and lift people up.’ My life changed yesterday. Thank you for living your dream so we can live ours.”

I’m sharing this with you so you know, that no matter where you are right now, what challenges you may be facing, there are people who care, people who will support you, encourage you and guide you. Feel that. Know it . Ask and it shall be given. Please share this message with someone who may need to hear it right now – and it will make all the difference in their world (and yours).

Shortly after receiving this message via email this morning, I received a “Thank You – perhaps this was a God thing. I just heard from my daughter who’s going through a very difficult time. I’ll forward it to her.”

This is NOT the time for us to sit back and do nothing. This IS the time for us to join forces, tap into each others talents and resources and take charge of our lives and our destiny!
