Let me first start by sharing … I LOVE MARKETING!marketing and strategy Marketing in this 2.0 World

And, I know that for most business owners marketing and selling are their 2 least favorite activities.  They much prefer to render their services and deliver their products. The challenge that creates is that marketing and selling are what bring the clients and customers to let you do what you love (i.e. deliver your services and products).

Why do I love marketing?  Because it gives me the opportunity to talk to other people about what I love to do, which is creating business strategies for success, speaking, crafting presentations, interviewing people, writing and providing sound advice to my clients.

Learn to Love Marketing and Get More…of Everything!

Marketing in this 2.0 world has provided more avenues and outlets to share your message — which in most cases is a blessing and a curse.  The challenge being you obviously can’t get your message into every outlet (without a huge team and a fat budget), so how do you choose the right marketing strategies for your business.  Here are a few suggestions:

1.  Know your target market.  If your answer to that is “Everybody can use what I sell” — it’s time to take a look at the commonalities of who has actually been buying.  Create a client profile that includes age, gender, average income, marital status, children, religion and hobbies.

2.  Know where your target market hangs out.  As this applies to social media, are your prospects mainly on Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn?  Study their online habits and hang out where they do!

3.  Know what your target market really wants (not just what you want to sell them).  Get clear on the real benefits and solutions you provide.  How will your product or service enhance their life, solve a problem, make them happier, healthier, wealthier, sexier (yes, we all know sex sells!)

I know you may have heard some of these tips before but — have you applied them to your marketing strategy?  This is why I’m often referred to as a “Catalyst” — asking the right questions, at the right time to produce the right results!

bigger paycheck 300x81 Want a Bigger Paycheck?Who doesn’t want a bigger paycheck?  Whether you want a bigger paycheck to help with your monthly bills, to help friends and family in need, to be able to donate more to charity, to be able to take a much needed vacation, or to use for investments and retirement, more cash flow is always welcome.  

 If you’re thinking that having a bigger paycheck depends on the economy, your employer or your prospects and customers – THINK AGAIN!  The power to have a bigger paycheck is in the palm of your hands.  Want to know how?  Read on.

 (1)   For Employees:  While you may think that the amount of money you make is determined by your employer, remember that your employer will pay you more if you bring more value to the company.  What can you do to improve your skills?  What can you do to help your employer make contacts that will bring in more business? What can you do to have a great attitude that fosters customer retention, loyalty and referrals?  Consider the stress your employer may be under during these tough economic times and look for solutions that will not only help him/her, it will put you on the path to a bigger paycheck!

 (2)   For Business Owners:  Do your employees feel like partners in your business vision or are they simply carrying out their day to day tasks, trading time for dollars?  Have you conveyed the vision for your company and enrolled them in the process?  Do you provide them with the support, motivation and training that’s essential to keep their spirits and the skills at the top of their game?  Remember to acknowledge their wins, encourage them during challenges and enroll them in your vision.

 (3)   For Entrepreneurs:  It may be time to fire your boss (yes, that’s you!)  Does your boss hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set, the number of contacts and follow up calls you’ve promised to make?  Have you actually set your goals, written them down and created a realistic action plan to achieve them? Have you put that action plan into action?  It’s time for your new boss (yes, that’s you again) to provide you the best systems and structure for success.  Make time today to get clear on your goals, create the action plan and then as Nike says “Just Do It!” To ensure your success in “Just Do It” (which is much easier said than done), find a mastermind group or accountability partner that will support you in sticking with your new system.

 We all know that the game has changed and continues to change.  “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.” (Jack Canfield)

One Little Lettersmall changes One Little Letter

When my daughter was 12 years old she was surfing the net and stumbled upon some interesting quotes – things that make you go “Hmmm….”
  •  “Only in America do you leave the doors open to a bank but chain down the pens.”
  • “What happens if you get scared half to death twice?”
  • “Never judge a book by its movie.”
  • “I can be bitter or I can be better, the choice is mine, it’s one little letter.”

After being impressed and amazed by the things that made her go “Hmmm…” (and grateful that this was her idea of surfing the net), the last one really struck me and made me go “Hmmm…”  How simple changes and small shifts can make such a big difference. One little letter changes “bitter” to “better” causing a major shift in feelings, attitudes and results.  One little letter changes “competition” to “coopetition” creating the opportunity to work together instead of against each other, causing a major shift in feelings, attitudes and results.

Do you believe that there’s so much competition it makes it hard for you to get business?  Are you focusing more on what your competition is doing rather than what you could be doing to add value and create win-win solutions for your clients?

There really is enough to go around. As you head out this week to meet with prospects, clients and yes, even those who appear to be your competition, seek little ways that you can make a big difference.  Remember, all it takes is one little letter to go from here to there.
